It’s All About Attitude

26 Jan

Hi! Because many of you enjoyed Joyce’s blog post about stress last month, we’ve decided to bug her again to share something with you today. 🙂 Check out what she has to say below and if you’d like, please join her discussion by leaving a comment. She would love to hear your thoughts.

I’ve never been someone to voluntarily read self-help books, but here I am – I’ve read three self-help books so far (and January isn’t even over yet!). I figured that I can use extra help this year.

The second book I read, Be the Miraclewritten by Regina Brett, really struck a chord with me. I don’t remember Brett’s exact words, but she said something like, “Everyone essentially does the same thing. What matters is how we do them.” So, how one person is different from another person is that we assign different meanings to similar tasks.

I guess we can all agree that everybody does the same thing – wherever we go, there are people providing service, selling products, talking about this and that… Our attitude is what makes the difference.

The other day I dealt with two awful service-providing people: the receptionist at my son’s doctor office and the pharmacist. I really was not sure why they were even working there if they were going to have such poor attitudes! Obviously, the two of them combined sort of ruined my morning. However, the pharmacist’s assistant helped me keep my cool because of how he acted: cheerful and helpful. I’m sure the pharmacist earns so much more money than the assistant. Why is there such a huge difference between these two people who are in the same business?

How we approach life really makes a world of difference. We don’t need to spread negativity; there’s plenty of it already. I’m determined to apply  this mindset to my everyday life – personal and professional. Yes, I even dare to say that I intend to be a kind of miracle to my kids, my husband, and my coworkers. I’m planning on consciously adopting this mentality not because I deliberately attach a worthwhile meaning to each and every action I take (as Brett suggested) – I don’t – but because I realize that a positive and loving attitude makes me happy and healthy in the end.

First on my to-do list: don’t make the pharmacist’s mistake and listen very well to others’ needs!

An Inside Look: Shipping Process

24 Jan

If you were ever curious about what goes on in our warehouse, today’s your lucky day. Here’s a quick overview of what happens when you place an order. Plus, we added pictures to make this boring, but important topic semi-exciting 🙂

FIRST – After you’ve placed your order on our website, our shipping team receives it and picks your order by winding through our warehouse maze full of tubs and tubs of products. Here is one aisle:

NEXT – As we pick items, we make sure that we are grabbing the right one by comparing the Product Name and barcode (pictured below). About 99% of our products are barcoded. One exception to the barcode is our gift boxes because barcode stickers are not exactly the prettiest decoration. But, don’t worry, we count those boxes very carefully.

FINALLY – All the items in your order are scanned and checked for breakage/defects, and just to triple-check, manually counted. Then, it’s packed up for our UPS driver. Here’s a nicely stacked rack of ready-to-be-delivered boxes:

Your order’s contents, as indicated above, go through at least 3 different inspections. We hate dealing with incorrect items and returns as much as you do, so we make every effort to prevent the chaos from happening.

TIPS

  • When you receive your package, please open your box carefully and check it thoroughly.
  • Sometimes, the person who packed your order gets a little creative and completely covers items in bubble wrap, so you might not see them immediately.
  • Check every nook and cranny, and double-check before you throw out the packing material!
  • Compare your order with the invoice. If you ordered 6 pieces, but only found 5 pieces, the invoice should say: 5/6
  • If you’re missing something that should have arrived in your order, please check with your employees first. We’ve found that sometimes, your employees get too excited about new merchandise and display them in your store without telling you… and, we don’t blame them. We’d be excited, too.

We hope you keep these tips in mind and, don’t forget, enjoy your new stylish shipment. If there are any issues when you shop with us or if you have suggestions for our shipping team, please let us know!

Things We Love: January

20 Jan

The title says it all. Today’s blog post is about what we are loving right now. Yes, our lives revolve around accessories most of the time, but not always! This is just a fun collage we put together so that you can get to know us a little better.

>> Ready? Clockwise from the top left…

1. Stabilo Pens – Some of us are more picky about our pens than others and, you know, a good pen seems to improve our penmanship as well. Available in a cool design and an assortment of colors, we dig.

2. Which Wich? – The day we discovered this sandwich shop changed our view of this American lunch staple forever. Really! We like the way you order your wich and the taste is fantastic. The milkshakes are delicious, too!

3. Inc. Magazine – Knowing fashion trends and maintaining our website are important, but making sure that our business is running smoothly is even more important. We highly recommend Inc., which is full of useful articles to keep your small biz on the right track.

4. Hoop Earrings, 22A00041GLD – Whether you love hoop earrings, watch “Basketball Wives“, or spotted Tiny (T.I.’s wife) wearing a pair, we are huge fans of these.

5. Hunter Rain Boots – In rain or snow, rain boots are the way to go. Georgia hasn’t seen snow this winter (though our CEO cautions that winter isn’t over yet…), but with all the rain lately, classic boots are nice to have between my walks from office to car.

6. Little Princes by Conor Grennan – Here is a secret: some of us are serious bookworms. A story about a young man’s mission to help the children in Nepal, this is one of our favorite reads – it is equal parts inspiring, hilarious, heartbreaking, and eye-opening.

7. Leather Bracelet, 33G00225BLK – Leather, if done right, can be edgy, chic, and glamorous. This one even has a faux croc print look and is bedazzled with crystals. We like layering these with other colors or other styles. Arm candy, anyone?

8. Coldplay – We like jamming to Coldplay. They always seem like the best driving music when it’s rainy (like today). Our dream is to see them live.

9. Oil Burner, 38T00029ORG – Mmm it’s a guaranteed better day at the workplace if something smells good. While we can’t whip up an apple pie here, the next best smell comes from scented oils. Chocolate is Joyce’s favorite!

10. Turquoise Necklace, 33G00209TUR – Put yourself out there and make a bold statement. It doesn’t get any bolder than this turquoise confection. While we’re not blessed with Heidi Klum‘s legs, we can certainly channel her style.
