Top 6 Small Biz Phone Apps

7 Mar

Most of us juggle insane schedules practically every single day as we work hard to successfully meet both our family and business needs. Whew – you’ve got a lot on your plate! While we can’t buy you more time or an extra set of hands, we can help you make your Smartphone work for you.

The following are six small biz-savvy phone apps that’ll hopefully restore some sanity and productivity in your life – and help your business reach its goals.

#1 – Quicken Online (iPhone) / QuickBooks Online (BlackBerry) – Keep all your numbers balanced wherever you are. Track your spending, forecast future expenses, look up accounts receivable/payable, and more. The iPhone version connects to your Quicken Online account to offer you the most up-to-date information.

#2 – Flipboard (iPhone + iPad) – Did you know that Whitney Houston’s death was first made known on Twitter, nearly 15 minutes before the media confirmed the details? Link your Twitter account to Flipboard and browse all the latest stories that are important to you, simply by swiping your finger across the screen like a book. Whether you’re interested in the news, style, or business, it’s all available in one spot.

#3 – UPS Mobile – If you have a love (my order arrived early!) – hate (where is my order?!) relationship with UPS like we do, their app might come in handy as you eagerly wait for your next package of stylish goods to arrive at your shop. Track shipments, get shipping quote estimates, find the nearest UPS store, or print shipping labels.

#4 – Wunderlist – Gone are the days when you scribble down your to-do list on a piece of paper and the paper mysteriously disappears! This free app helps you organize your life into a way that won’t make you crazy by easily letting you create lists, prioritize tasks, and customize your experience by changing the background. You know, there’s just a nice sense of satisfaction when you check off a task as finally done.

#5 – Shoeboxed (iPhone + iPad) – Receipts are a nuisance, but a necessary nuisance. Or, are they? If you’re treating your hardworking staff for lunch, take a picture of the receipt and Shoebox quickly records all the important details like payment type, amount, and category. Then, it also lets you create expense reports. With all your receipts gathered in one place, taxes and budgeting are a breeze.

#6 – TripIt – Heading on a road trip to set up your booth at a tradeshow? Catching a flight to find new products? Whether you’re traveling for a weekend or a whole week, TripIt manages all of your trip’s details, compiling everything into a single itinerary, leaving no room for any confusion. With your destination’s weather, hotel accommodations, flight info, and more at your fingertips, traveling is now chaos free.

As a small business owner one of my saving grace phone apps has been “CamScan” which allows me to scan anything–mostly paper–and immediately email it as a PDF. This has saved me from needing a scanner and I can easily email invoices to my accountant. Fabulous!
